Olympic synchronised swimming tickets oversold by mistake

Locog have asked 3,000 customers to return tickets after accidentally overselling the Olympic synchronised swimming events.

THOUSANDS OF OLYMPIC ticket-holders could find themselves on the end of an unexpected upgrade after a ticketing snafu forced organisers to recall a batch of tickets.

BBC reports that thousands of synchronised swimming tickets were incorrectly made available during the second round of sales and have since been recalled by Games organiser Locog.

The mistake was caused by a “human data error” with the seating plans. Locog contacted around 3,000 customers last month to inform them that the event had accidentally been oversold and ask that they return the tickets.

Customers who were affected have now been offered a chance to swap their “phantom” synchronised swimming tickets for tickets to other events that they originally applied for, and could now end up with tickets to the Games’ showpiece events.

To date, over 3.5m Olympic tickets have been sold, but applicants who are still empty-handed will have a few more opportunities to pick up a ticket.

Starting this Friday, customers who have tickets which they no longer want will be able to list them on Locog’s resale portal. Those tickets will then be available at face value on a first come first served basis to customers.

A further one million tickets became available when organisers signed off on the final seating arrangements in the Olympic venues and are expected to go on sale in May.
