Olympic mood will determine London Eye colour

The reaction to each day of the Games on Twitter will dictate the look of the iconic London landmark. Let’s hope it’s green.

THE LONDON EYE will be lit up according to the mood of British public on social media sites during the Olympic Games.

The reaction to each day of the Games on Twitter will dictate the look of the iconic London landmark, with a 30-minute light show to take place at 9pm local time each day.

If Britain is positive the Eye will glow yellow, if it’s neutral it will go green, and if the feeling towards the Games is negative it will turn purple.  Former British decathlete and two-times Olympic champion Daley Thompson expects plenty of yellow nights.

“At the moment about 62 or 63 percent of the people in Britain are really positive about it (the Olympics) and I suspect as we get closer to the Games and we start winning a few things, that percentage is going to go right up,” Thompson said.

When a British athlete wins a medal the London Eye will light up in the colours of the Union Flag.

  • What a brilliant idea. A lot of thought has gone into every aspect of the games.

    • Absolutely, from olympic bus lanes, to security, to bbc’s live stream website, to public transport, to new amazing venues and structures, to financial backing etc etc….now imagine ireland hosting the olympics?! The level of corruption and incompetence combined with a lack of planning would be untold!

    • By security do you mean G4S not recruiting enough security as per their tender? So the British army plugs the gap. Public Transport? The only changes there is the advise given to Londoners to work from home, walk or take a different route. New Venues? Yes funded in part by the increases in council tax, and the construction of which went over budget. I have to say though I am looking forward to it, but the organisation and planning behind the Olympics has been a farce at times
