HORSE RACING TRAINER Oliver Brady sadly passed away last night following a long battle with cancer.
Horse Racing Ireland has today confirmed the death of the popular Monaghan man. He was first diagnosed with cancer back in 1995 and underwent several operations since then.
Brady was known for his great charity work in raising money for the Shabra Charity Foundation, which he established with his business partner Rita Shah.
Amongst his best horses were Maralan, who won two Grade Two chases within the space of a week in February 2008, and Ebadiyan, successful in the Grade Three Punchestown Juvenile Hurdle in January 2009.
Tributes have been paid this morning to the Monaghan man:
So sorry to hear this news. He was a super horse man. My thoughts to his wife Rita and family. He put Monaghan on the map at Cheltenham. A great charity worker who has done so much. A true gentleman. Rest in Peace and may heaven be a magnificent gallop.
Up Monaghan R.I.P. Oliver
Ballybayfortay was one of his quotes.
As was the infamous up monaghan roar!!.
A giant of a man and will be truly missed in the parade ring.
They don’t make em like this guy too often.
Thanks for all of the joy you brought to people.
Rest in peace.
The legend Oliver Brady.
A great man and a very generous, kind hearted soul. Did huge work for charity in Kenya, battled bravely against his illness and his love for horses kept him fighting to his last breath. Will be sorely missed across the racecourses of the country “it’s Ballybay for drinking tae and it’s Castleblayney for brandy, up Monaghan!” RIP Oliver Ní bheidh do leithéidse arís ann a bhuachaill.
It is with a very heavy heart that I have heart of the death of Oliver Brady RIP . We have been friends for about 35yrs and I visited him along with another friend of our last year and we had a great few hours. He was a very generous man and a tireless worker for his charity Shabra Foundation along with Rita Shah his long time business partner. To Rita I want to say sincere condolences . It’s the end of an era in Irish racing circles as he was the bright shining star that lit up a terrible wet day at the races when he had a winner when he thrilled us all with his antics . He really was a quiet guy but he lit up when he had a winner and was a wonderful man. I’ll miss him. Rest in Peace old friend.
A man who brought life to the house racing game. A real genuine good guy. Surely missed.
Up Monaghan. R.I.P Oliver
An absolute screwball , but a gentleman to boot .
R.I.P.
You don’t find too many like Oliver in horse racings stiff upper lip closed inner circle, most of them just pay lip service to the general public, Oliver was a breath of fresh air within those stuffy ranks probably despised by some of the stiffys for his larger than life antics?, one thing we can say about Oliver he was honest, not too many in racings murky world could have that label adorned on them.
R.I.P Oliver we won’t see the likes of you again!.
Ballybay for drinking tay, Monaghan for brandy, but Castleblayney bates them all with sugar candy.
A brilliant character that will be missed by many.
R.I.P xx
Did not know him personally but great to see so much
admiration for a man who loved his horse racing, many
respects to his family and friends.
One of monaghan’s greats. Will be missed by all in Monaghan and a far. That big racecourse above will have plenty of craic now!
