THE WEEKENDS ARE such a busy time that little nuggets like the ones which we’ve kindly compiled below can often be overlooked. Now is your chance to catch up on some of the stories that may have slipped through the cracks first around.

1. Petra Kvitova’s shocking attempt at a smash

Second seed Petra Kvitova sent Ana Ivanovic out of the Australian Open in Melbourne but before winning 6-2, 7-7 (7-2), she completely mistimed what seemed to be a routine smash in the ninth game.

2. Paolo Di Canio goes slightly insane after being sent off

Swindon Town fans have come to realise that there is never a dull moment when the Italian is around. The former West Ham striker was furious at being sent to the stands after making his feelings known over a penalty claim that wasn’t given.

3. Don’t ever get Steve Tyler to sing your national anthem

The Aerosmith frontman was invited to sing The Star-Spangled Banner before the NFL final at Massachusetts’ Gillette Stadium and fans and players alike watched on as he absolutely butchered it. Warning: it’s not pretty.

4. Van Persie reacts to his manager’s choice of substitution

Arsene Wenger’s decision-making was called into question by one of his own players during Sunday’s Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester United. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made way for Andrei Arshavin and television cameras shot to Robin van Persie, who was clearly disgusted.

5. And finally, it’s Zebo Time…

Munster progressed to the quarter-finals of the Heineken Cup along with Ulster and Leinster after a 51-36 win over Northampton at Stadium:MK on Saturday. 21-year-old winger Simon Zebo, seen here in mid-air, announced himself on the European stage with three tries on the night.
