Off the record: sport stories you might have missed this weekend

Has London got itself a new rollercoaster?

UNLESS YOUโ€™VE BEEN glued to the internet all weekend, thereโ€™s a chance that some weird and wonderful sporting tidbits might have slipped through the cracks. Hereโ€™s a run-down of some of our favouritesโ€ฆ

1. #ART OR AWFUL? Britainโ€™s tallest sculpture was unveiled on Friday to a mixed reception. The Orbit, a 377ft red steel tower, sits alongside Londonโ€™s new Olympic Stadium and while supporters have likened it to the cityโ€™s very own Eiffel Tower, many others have branded it an eye-sore. Designed by Cecil Balmond and built for the Olympic Games, it cost โ‚ฌ18m and took a year and a half to erect. What do you think?

2. #ARRIVEDERCI Legendary Italian footballer Alessandro Del Piero bid farewell to Juventus, the club he spent 20 years at, in typical fashion over the weekend. The 37-year-old finished up in style by scoring during their 3-1 win over Atalanta as Antonio Conteโ€™s side became only the second in history to remain unbeaten through a whole Serie A season.

3. #HEADS UP Harris English began the third round of The Players Championship and managed to strike a PGA volunteer right on the head from the tee-off. That has got to hurt.

4. #UNBELIEVABLE JEFF In what was one of the most dramatic ends to a season youโ€™ll ever witness, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson and the rest of panel completely lose it. Stelling and Merson canโ€™t believe their eyes when Edin Dzeko scores the equaliser for Manchester City and it all gets too much when Sergio Aguero wraps up the title. โ€œLove bites and everythingโ€?
