1. #INNOVATION Referees have discovered a new way to alleviate pressure from angry managers. During Saturday’s Eredivisie match between Groningen and VVV, the former side’s manager, Robert Maaskant, began shouting abuse at the official for his perceived ineptitude. In response, the referee simply waved his “Respect” armband in the manager’s direction.

3. #AWKWARD Award shows invariably contain a few cringe-worthy moments, and there was at least one at the Sports Personality of the Year awards last night. No less than Kate Middleton offered Jessica Ennis a handshake as she was accepting her award, and unfortunately, Ennis left the Duchess of Cambridge hanging.

4. #RETIREMENT Legendary boxing commentator Larry Merchant retired earlier this week, and made an emotional goodbye speech for his last event. So with that in mind, what better excuse than to revisit one of his finest late-career moments?

5. #FANTASY FOOTBALL If you think you had a bad weekend at Fantasy Football (of the American variety), just be thankful you’re not the individual who gained renown for recording what is being called the worst fantasy football score ever. (h/t reddit)
