Off The Ball to go to seven-day-a-week schedule

The weekend sports shows are to be ditched, the station has confirmed.

JOE DUFFY MAY have been talking about a different version of Off The Ball when he said ‘they never go home, those boys’ but it applies more than ever at Newstalk’s award-winning sports programme.

The station have today announced that the show will move to a seven-day schedule from Tuesday, meaning the weekend sports shows are to be shelved.

The week night programme will continue to go out between 7 and 10pm while the weekend broadcast is pencilled in for 2pm until 6pm on Saturdays and between 1pm and 6pm each Sunday.

Newstalk sports editor, Ger Gilroy, has added former GAA stars Colm Parkinson and Diarmuid Lyng along with one-time 98FM broadcaster Adrian Barry to the team since the exit of the five journalists behind the Second Captains podcast and TV show.

“Extending Off the Ball to a seven-day show is a revolution in sports radio in Ireland,” says Gilroy. “We’re bringing together the best in live coverage with the best in analysis, all under one roof.

“We’ve grown the team significantly and we now have big game experience and expertise on tap from Colm and Diarmuid, while we’re also able to call on the radio nous of Adrian. Adding them in to the panel of experts we call on each week – John Giles, Pat Nevin, Graham Taylor, Graham Hunter, Keith Wood, Eddie O’Sullivan, Liam Toland, Conor Deegan, Jamesie O’Connor, Dáithí Regan, and David Brady – means we’re the first stop for great sports radio.”
