O'Connell and Varley a doubt for Munster

Pair considered ‘doutbful’ for Munster’s semi-final clash next Friday.

BOTH PAUL O’CONNELL  and Damien Varley are considered doubtful for Munster’s RaboDirect PRO12 semi-final clash with Ospreys after suffering injuries in the game against Ulster at the weekend.

O’Connell left the field in the 55th minute with a knee injury while Varley, who had replaced Mike Sherry in the 45th minute, sustained an ankle injury with just two minutes left.

A medical examination this morning showed Varley had suffered an ankle sprain but the news was worse for O’Connell who will need to see a specialist later in the week to determine the full extent of his injury.

Both are considered doubtful for Munster’s semi final next Friday with some fearing O’Connell’s knock could rule him out of Ireland’s summer tour of New Zealand.

However, there is better news in relation to Ronan O’Gara – who is expected to resume training this week  - and Ian Keatley who missed the Ulster game after sustaining a knock in training last Thursday with both players hoping to be in consideration for the Osprey game.
