IRELAND MANAGER GIOVANNI Trapattoni has confirmed the team, which is widely expected to line out against Croatia next week, for tomorrow’s friendly with Hungary.
There are no real surprises in the side, as Aiden McGeady is preferred to James McClean and Kevin Doyle is given the nod up front, despite Shane Long getting on the scoresheet in the side’s most recent friendly against Bosnia.
Elsewhere, concerns over Shay Given’s fitness have been allayed, with the goalkeeper being chosen to start tomorrow.
Trapattoni previously indicated that the side selected to play Hungary would be identical to the team that turns out against Croatia, barring injuries.
Tomorrow’s friendly in Budapest kicks off at 7.30pm, ahead of the side’s first Euro 2012 game on Sunday.
Ireland team to face Hungary: Given; O’Shea, Dunne, St Ledger, Ward; Duff, Andrews, Whelan, McGeady; Keane, Doyle.
This will be probably starting 11 for Croatia game, tried and tested.. Think Doyle shouldn’t be starting hasn’t looked the player he was for about 18 months now, give long or Walters a chance..
As per my comment on another post some days ago, this is EXACTLY the team we all knew he would pick – and we could have called it 12 months ago – barring injuries. No surprises so let’s get behind the boys in green and support them all the way!!! Getting excited now!!!
I agree with the above comment I would play keane and long if it didn’t work swap them Doyle and waters
Long is quicker and a better finisher so think it will only be a game or two before in gets into the starting line up. Hope the lads don’t take it too easy against Hungary tomorrow. When you are not as commited in challenges injuries occur.
I’m in agreement. I honestly don’t think Doyle has much to offer, he doesn’t score!
Gary Waddock is thankful he didn’t get called up
Sky news say that is the side for next week is this trap playing mind game
Every one of the lads will try their best for their Country. Good luck to all
Trap=legend.
