EX-F1 DRIVER Nick Heidfeld walked away from a horror crash in the first-ever Formula E Championship race in Beijing.
Heidfeld’s car slammed into a barrier and was sent spinning through the air following an collision with race leader Nicolas Prost on the final lap.
Heidfield moved up on the inside to overtake Prost, the son of racing legend Alain, but lost control when the Frenchman veered from his racing line and the cars touched.
Both Heidfeld and Prost crashed out, leaving Lucas di Grassi to take the chequered flag.
“Just to let everybody know: I am fine… physically,” Heidfeld tweeted afterwards.
“Could/would/should have won that. Now nothing… #racing”
The inaugural season of the 10-race Formula E Championship, specifically for electric cars, continues in Malaysia in November.
