'We are all monkeys': Neymar and Brazil unite behind Dani Alves after defiant response to racism

So much love, so much potassium.

IN CASE YOU missed it last night, Barcelona’s Dani Alves was again the subject of racist abuse last night during Barcelona’s win over Villareal at El Madrigal last night.

His response to the monkey chants and banana-throwing was to calmly pick up the yellow fruit off the turf and chow down as he was taking a corner.

Who knows? Maybe the sudden potassium boost may well have had a direct impact on the game as Alves and Barca would go on to come from 2 – 1 down to win 2 – 3.

Post match, Alves’ countrymen and Barca teammates took to Instagram to show their support for the powerful defiant gesture.

Neymar’s message was the best. Posted with the hashtag #SomoTodosMacacos and the translation, #WeAreAllMonkeys.

Neymar’s girlfriend Thaissa Carvalho (plus extended family) also got in on the fruit-fuelled act.

Some other big names from Brazilian football also showed their support. Bebeto, for one, who posted the image of Alves with this message:

“It is unacceptable that in 2014 still full of racism we see cases like what happened with our Dani Alves Bahia!

“Measures need to be taken and penalties applied vigorously to curb this kind of prejudice, because it is a real stain the Spanish football!

“Congratulations on your attitude, strength of character and champion in the fight against racism! I’m with you!”

Hulk and his incredible family also got in on the act.
