ROY KEANE’S NEW autobiography will be released on 9 October, it has been confirmed.

The much-anticipated book, entitled The Second Half, is being ghostwritten by Roddy Doyle, and follows on from the star’s initial autobiography, Keane, which was released in 2003.
Following the release of the book, an event with Keane and Doyle will be held on 22 October in the RDS, with tickets, which will be priced at €40, going on sale at ticketmaster.ie on 16 September at 10am.
Keane will also be appearing with Doyle at similar events in London and Manchester on 20 and 21 October respectively in conversation with Jim White of The Telegraph.
Commenting on the upcoming release, Roy Keane said: “My football career both on and off the pitch has been colourful, to say the least, and I look forward to chatting about the highs and lows. People may not have expected Roddy Doyle and me to come together to write a book, but I really enjoyed the process and look forward to discussing it in front of a live audience with Roddy on the night.”
A blurb for the forthcoming book, which documents the life of the current Ireland and Aston Villa assistant boss, reads as follows: “What is said to be a stunning collaboration with Booker Prize-winning author Roddy Doyle, The Second Half blends anecdote and reflection in Roy Keane’s inimitable voice. The result is an unforgettable personal odyssey which fearlessly challenges the meaning of success.
“In an 18-year playing career for Cobh Ramblers, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Celtic, Keane dominated every midfield he led to glory. Aggressive and highly competitive, his attitude helped him to excel as captain of Manchester United from 1997 until his departure in 2005.
“Playing at an international level for nearly all his career, he represented the Republic of Ireland for over 14 years, mainly as team captain, until an incident with national coach Mick McCarthy resulted in Keane’s walk-out from the 2002 World Cup. Since retiring as a player, Keane has managed Sunderland and Ipswich and has most recently been busy in his role as assistant manager to Martin O’Neill and the Republic of Ireland football.
“As part of an elite group of football players, Keane has had a life like no other. His status as one of football’s greatest stars is undisputed, but what of the challenges beyond the pitch? How did he succeed in coming to terms with life as a former Manchester United and Ireland leader and champion, reinventing himself as a manager and then a broadcaster, and cope with the psychological struggles this entailed?”
On the same week Ireland play? – lets hope he doesn’t make any disparaging remarks about the current squad. The man was a great player but an absolute hypocrite.. he was slagging everyone off about writing a book and here is. He is only proving what Ferguson said that his biggest fault is his tongue – he doesn’t know when to shut up.
He is loving the media image of himself and he’s feeding the beast.
I liked Keane’s first book but don’t see many interesting points arising from this one. The only part I’ll be looking out for is his version of what happened when he left united. Could have fitted that into a newspaper article though.
Excerpt from the book: “Roy fukk*n Keane was fukk*n born in nineteen fukk*n seventy one, first fukk*n thing he learned to fukk*n kick was the fukk*n dog, ‘Dog, you’re a bollox’ Roy fukk*n said”
Obviously, you’re entitled to your opinion but I can’t imagine it’s one shared by many. Keane could be described as many things but surely not boring?
In fact I think it’s fair to say he’s fascinating.
Agreed .but one of the best midfielders ever to play football, brutal manager though. I hope I the book he explains what was going through his head when he signed the likes of El Hadji Diouf for Sunderland.
It’s written in Keane’s voice and is only ghostwritten by Doyle, so it is indeed an autobiography, albeit one where the collaboration between the writer and the star is not exactly being downplayed.
Ooooh i have to find €40 for a ticket.. I met him in Easons in Dublin in 2002 and he signed my book.. Is he not doing an event in Cork.. Roy bhoy, they wont like that !!!
I assume he’ll be around for another 20 years anyway. Plenty of time for two or three more “autobiographies ” . One would have been fine …..around 2040.

Who’s phone is that?
Thats my phone Roy..
Well why don’t you turn it off?
Well I thought I’d let it ring out..
Oh that’s good manners
That’s the second time it’s gone off
How many autobiographys does an ego need?
€40? – think I’ll pass.
I’d pay the €40 if it includes a copy of the book
On the same week Ireland play? – lets hope he doesn’t make any disparaging remarks about the current squad. The man was a great player but an absolute hypocrite.. he was slagging everyone off about writing a book and here is. He is only proving what Ferguson said that his biggest fault is his tongue – he doesn’t know when to shut up.
He is loving the media image of himself and he’s feeding the beast.
Who doesn’t know when to shut up ?….
@gabbi I think he slagged people off who wrote books whilst they were playing .
Looking forward to this , Roddy Doyle is an interesting choice of author.
I liked Keane’s first book but don’t see many interesting points arising from this one. The only part I’ll be looking out for is his version of what happened when he left united. Could have fitted that into a newspaper article though.
The best book on Roy Keane is Triggs autobiography.
Excerpt from the book: “Roy fukk*n Keane was fukk*n born in nineteen fukk*n seventy one, first fukk*n thing he learned to fukk*n kick was the fukk*n dog, ‘Dog, you’re a bollox’ Roy fukk*n said”
Bwahahahahah
should maybe have gone for a cork ‘author’? doyle’s speciality is (unbearable) third rate dublin fakery, hardly right for keane?
I hope jimmy “the lips” fagan makes an appearance!!!
Should of called it ” at the end of the day”
Should HAVE, Brian. HAVE.
“Should HAVE called it”
Can’t call it at the end of the day as he has to write a few more first the money grabbing hypocrite
Such s bore is Roy who in thier right mind would read such rubbish
I think YOU need to read a book Denise… Ann and Barry doesn’t count
Obviously, you’re entitled to your opinion but I can’t imagine it’s one shared by many. Keane could be described as many things but surely not boring?
In fact I think it’s fair to say he’s fascinating.
Roy is such a bore.
Stop clicking in to articles about him the Denise! You left no less than 3 comments on a topic you find incredibly boring. Jesus wept.
Agreed .but one of the best midfielders ever to play football, brutal manager though. I hope I the book he explains what was going through his head when he signed the likes of El Hadji Diouf for Sunderland.
What a loser. How many biographies do you need?
Somebody get that man a t-shirt with his own name on it!
Professional footballers do indeed have their names on shirts and now he is a coach he has his initials on instead. Your point being?
All credit two books Roy.
At the end of the Day.
It’s not an autobiography of Roy Keane if Roddy Doyle wrote it, if he co-wrote it maybe but that doesn’t seem to be the case per this article.
It’s written in Keane’s voice and is only ghostwritten by Doyle, so it is indeed an autobiography, albeit one where the collaboration between the writer and the star is not exactly being downplayed.
I suspected as much, cheers for the clarification.
I clicked in to this article purely to make that point. Looks like I’ve been put in my place.
That’s expensive Jacks Roll.
Ooooh i have to find €40 for a ticket.. I met him in Easons in Dublin in 2002 and he signed my book.. Is he not doing an event in Cork.. Roy bhoy, they wont like that !!!
Jesus how many does he have?
2.
Look forward to reading it …………..
He’s turning into a sad act… Fergie won, Roy. Move on.
http://youtu.be/2J2uHLAqj5s
If Roddy Doyle wrote it, he can make anything entertaining – good writer. Otherwise, who gives a crap?
Time 2 move on.what next a children’s story book
not sure i fi i will, I purchased Graeme LeSauxe’s in 2010 and have yet to read it
I assume he’ll be around for another 20 years anyway. Plenty of time for two or three more “autobiographies ” . One would have been fine …..around 2040.
