ROSCOMMON FOOTBALLER DONIE Shine has pinpointed this weekend’s game with Longford as a must-win if they are to obtain back-to-back league promotions.
The Rossies have recorded two wins from two, over Tipperary and Offaly, at the start of the 2012 campaign and are aiming to continue their climb to Division Two a year after coming up from the fourth tier.
This Sunday sees Des Newton’s team pitted against their neighbours at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park and with the pair level at the top of the table on four points, Shine is well aware of its importance.
“It’s definitely the key game,” Shine said in an interview with GAA.ie. “Longford are really going well. I haven’t seen any of their games but by all accounts they are meant to be moving well.
You never get anything easy over in Pearse Park and we won’t be expecting anything easy.”
The 23-year-old Clan na nGael clubman, who featured for Connacht in their Interprovincial Football semi-final defeat to Ulster last week, is eager to test himself against best players in the country and added that the only way to do that is by playing in the top divisions.
If you want to be ambitious you have to be in Division Two or One and we know that. We’re going to put a big push on to get promotion.”
