Naked, drunk All Black gives tourists an eyeful

The NZRU will stand by their man after All Blacks’ winger Zac Guildford was involved in another alcohol-related incident.

WORLD CUP WINNER Zac Guildford is back in the headline for all the wrong reasons after wandering into a Cook Islands bar drunk, naked and bleeding.

The winger is alleged to have had a physical altercation with one of the bar’s customers during the incident, which occurred on the main island of Rarotonga last Thursday, and was injured after reportedly being involved in a scooter accident earlier the same day.

The 22-year-old has previously admitted to having an issue with alcohol following a couple of high-profile boozing sessions in recent months, and pledged to address his problems after meeting with All Blacks management in September.

Speaking on Sunday, New Zealand Rugby Union general manager Neil Sorensen insisted the governing body would do all they could to help their man (See the NZ Herald).

“Our first move is to really say ‘how can we help this guy’, that’s the first thing. But we’ve got to establish the facts and it sounds like he got up to something. We are not denying that.

“He’s had some alcohol-related issues in the past, and we’ve worked closely with Zac over the last 18 months and… we will continue to do so. He’s a good young man.”

Witnesses told the NZ Herald that the All Black walked into the bar, was wet and had no clothes on. He was bleeding from the forehead, chest and knees and then allegedly punched a man who asked if he needed help. Staff put an apron around his waist before friends of his arrived on the scene and led him away.

The NZRU has confirmed its intention to speak with the player once he returns to New Zealand.
