First Win

Anthony Foley got his first win as Munster coach tonight

His side recorded a 17-5 win over London Irish in Waterford.

MUNSTER BOUNCED BACK from last week’s shellacking against Gloucester with a 17-5 win over London Irish tonight. It was Anthony Foley’s first win as head coach and he will be pleased with the fight shown by his team after the 45-7 defeat at Kingsholm last Saturday.

Munster struck first, with Ronan O’Mahony touching down just before the half after scrumhalf Cathal Sheridan moved the ball quickly near the London Irish line. One thing that will annoy Foley is that Munster weren’t able to see out the half with their tryline intact thereafter.

With the last act of the opening 40, London Irish winger Alex Lewington grabbed a try in the corner that went unconverted, leaving Munster with a 7-5 lead. Munster’s second half pressure eventually told on the scoreboard when replacement Duncan Williams sniped over and Johnny Holland added his second conversion of the game.

Holland added another penalty before the end to bring Foley his inaugural win as Munster head coach.
