Club GAA round-up from Munster

There were key football games in Clare, Cork and Tipperary over the weekend while the semi-finalists are known in the Kerry SFC and the final stage has been reached in the Waterford SHC.

CLARE SFC
Doonbeg completed the line-up for the semi-final stages of the senior football championship with a 2-8 to 1-9 quarter-final replay success over Éire Óg (Ennis) yesterday.

The 2010 champions fought back in the second-half after trailing by 0-8 to 1-1 at the interval. They will now face St Joseph’s-Doora Barefield in their semi-final clash while the other last four tie will be a battle between Kilmurry-Ibrickane and Kilrush Shamrocks.

CORK SFC
Duhallow clinched their semi-final spot with a 0-13 to 1-9 victory over Douglas in last night’s quarter-final replay in Mallow. County senior Donncha O’Connor was to the fore as the divisional outfit, who last reached the decider in 1998, moved within a game of appearing at that stage.

They will face O’Donovan Rossa in next weekend’s last four clash while the other semi-final will be contested by last year’s beaten finalists Castlehaven and Carbery Rangers or Bishopstown, who meet in a quarter-final tie on October 13th.

KERRY SFC
Reigning champions Dr Crokes will face Laune Rangers at the semi-final stage of this year’s senior football championship after the draw was made earlier today on Radio Kerry. Dr Crokes, who were triumphant over Austin Stacks in yesterday’s quarter-final by 1-13 to 0-8, will be aiming to reach their sixth decider in eight years. Laune Rangers, who were 3-13 to 2-4 victors over Rathmore on Saturday, last reached the decider in 2004 when they were defeated by South Kerry.

The other semi-final will be a battle between Dingle and St Kieran’s. Dingle were 2-12 to 1-13 winners over Feale Rangers on Saturday night and will be chasing their first final appearance since 1948. Divisional outfit St Kieran’s, who enjoyed a 1-21 to 2-11 success against Kenmare on Saturday, last featured in the final in 1998.

TIPPERARY SFC
Loughmore-Castleiney and Arravale Rovers both progressed in the county senior football championship over the weekend. Loughmore-Castleiney were 1-6 to 1-5 winners over Fethard in Littleton on Friday night with Evan Sweeney striking the winning point. That second round success now propels Loughmore-Castleiney, who are in senior hurling action this weekend with a semi-final duel against Drom-Inch, into the quarter-finals of the football championship.

Meanwhile Arravale Rovers got the better of Éire Óg Annacarty by 0-9 to 0-8 on Saturday night. In a tight game, the winners lead by 0-5 to 0-4 at half-time and now go forward to face Moyle Rovers.

WATERFORD SHC
De La Salle will face Dungarvan in the final of this year’s county senior hurling championship in the Fraher Field on October 14th after they both claimed semi-final wins over the weekend. De La Salle triumphed in the city derby on Saturday night in Walsh Park by 0-18 to 2-8 against Mount Sion. De La Salle, who have won two of the last four titles, trailed by 1-5 to 0-6 at the break with Michael Gaffney raising the green flag for Mount Sion.

They hit the net again through Anthony Kirwan to push them into a 2-7 to 0-12 lead during the second-half. But De La Salle finished strongly with Kevin Moran, Dean Twomey and John Mullane to the fore as they ran out victors by four points.

Last night in the Fraher Field, Dungarvan celebrated a 1-15 to 2-9 win over Fourmilewater in their semi-final clash and in the process they reached their first decider since 1951. The teams were tied at 1-5 apiece at the break with Cormac Curran finding the net for Dungarvan while Seamus Lawlor struck home a goal for Fourmilewater. A Jamie Barron goal gave Fourmilewater a further boost early in the second-half but then Dungarvan finished strongly with Curran, Gavin Crotty and Jamie Nagle all impressing.
