Munster sign Super Rugby centre Andrew Smith

29-year-old Australian will join Munster next season.

MUNSTER HAVE SIGNED Australian centre Andrew Smith on a one-year deal.

As reported by TheScore.ie yesterday, the 29-year-old set his sights on a move to Ireland when his contract with Super Rugby franchise Brumbies runs out at the end of this season.

Munster confirmed the deal this morning, and Smith said that the province’s former forwards coach Laurie Fisher — who is now the Brumbies’ Director of Rugby — had helped influence his decision.

“I’m really looking forward to joining Munster and making the most of the opportunity,” he said.

Laurie Fisher has always spoken highly about the team and culture. It’s definitely somewhere I want to go and make an impact, working closely with the boys and training hard.

“I’ve no doubt it will be a great experience and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Smith made his Super Rugby debut for the Brumbies in 2010 and won 43 caps. He also played against the British and Irish Lions last summer when the Brumbies were the only provincial team to defeat the tourists.
