The Irish sides both looked below their usual standard, with Eric Elwood’s men particularly disappointing.

MUNSTER NARROWLY DEFEATED Zebre with a 27-25 victory this evening at Stadio XXV Aprile.

The Irish side looked below their usual standard, as they were clearly suffering a hangover from their recent Heineken Cup semi-final loss.

Tries from BJ Botha, Johne Murphy and Paddy Butler helped Munster prevail ultimately, after they had found themselves 22-14 down at half-time.

Meanwhile, Connacht gave a disappointing performance in Eric Elwood’s game as coach, losing 20-3 at home to Glasgow.

A Daniel van der Merwe try and a Ruaridh Jackson gave the visitors the lead, with Dan Parks’ penalty just before half-time making it 10-3.

The Scottish side withstood some pressure thereafter, before a try on 70 minutes from Lions call-up Sean Maitland proved the killer blow, with Stuart Hogg also adding a penalty and a conversion over the course of the half.
