BOLTON MANAGER OWEN Coyle says it “wouldn’t surprise” him if Fabrice Muamba makes a return to professional football.
The player has made an incredible recovery since suffering a cardiac arrest during a match against Tottenham in the FA Cup on March 17.
And Muamba’s doctor recently told the Manchester Evening News that the player could return to action within the next six months. Dr Richard Cooke said:
“It would seem highly likely that he would have had a defibrillator put in.
“There are some footballers who do play with them and have had a similar history, so as long as he makes a full neurological recovery, from a heart perspective there is no reason why he couldn’t resume his professional football career.”
In addition to this news, Coyle told reporters:
“God willing, if he ever comes back to play then of course, that will be a huge boost to everybody.”
He added that the player seemed to be recovering well judging by a recent phone conversation they had:
“You can always tell from the sound of somebody’s voice and he sounded in a good place. It was great to hear from him and he sounded terrific.”
Coyle also said it was up to the player to decide whether he wanted to visit his teammates before the end of the season.
