Muamba taken to hospital, in a ‘critically ill condition’

Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba is in intensive care after collapsing during an FA Cup match this evening.

Updated 21.45

THE FA CUP clash between Tottenham and Bolton Wanderers at White Hart Lane was abandoned on Saturday, after the Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed in the middle of the pitch.

Muamba had nobody around him when he fell and immediately received CPR in an effort to resuscitate him on the pitch.

The 23-year-old was taken to the Heart Attack Centre at the London Chest Hospital. Following initial reports that described Muamba as “stable”, a statement issued by Bolton this evening said that he remains ”in a critically ill condition in intensive care.”

No further information will be issued at this stage. The club has requested the media to respect his family’s privacy at this time”

After referee Howard Webb called players from both teams off the pitch, fans remained to hear news of the former Arsenal and Birmingham player, chanting his name in support before the news came that the match would not go ahead.

The thoughts of TheScore.ie are with Muamba and his family at this time.

Whatever the reason, just thank God that you are not someone that does. Clearly someone who would thumb down the well wishes of people onto a man that was perhaps very close to death, are themselves ill and beyond recovery.

A story about a friend of mine who has suffered SADS and survived, Have changed his name in the story and have copied this from a webpage that was setup for him.

Martin was 32 years old when he collapsed with Sudden Adult Death Syndrome on July 17th, 2011 in his local shop. Thankfully due to the actions of some local heroes and the quick response of the paramedics he was successfully resuscitated. On that day he had to be resuscitated 7 times.
This traumatic experience left him in a coma for almost a week and with memory loss for weeks… the memory of 3 of the weeks has never returned to him. He spent a month in hospital on that occasion. He is a very lucky man though and his friends and family are lucky that they still have him in their lives.
Sudden Adult Death Syndrome, as the name suggests, normally leaves very little survivors. The stats in Ireland are approx 5% survival rate, that’s only 2 or 3 people per year that survive this quick and silent killer. Martin luckily was one of them but has had numerous serious heart problems since as a result.
Between October and November 2011 he spent most of 4 weeks in and out of hospital trying new medications as he had 4 Ventricular Fibrillations. These would have been fatal only for the fact that he has an ICD(Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) implant in his chest. This is a defibrillator which gives an electric shock to the heart when it stops or goes into a potentially fatal rhythm.
In January 2012 he had 14 Ventricular Fibrillations within 11 days including 5 in one day. He was in CCU (Coronary Care Unit) in Tullamore before being rushed to St. James’ in Dublin for further and more complicated treatment. Martin spent 38 days in hospital on his last visit. He is now on a huge amount of medication to keep his heart working properly but no guarantees can be made by his doctors due to how rare and aggressive his condition is. As of now the condition is not curable and all of the electric shocks are obviously causing great anxiety to a man who was a healthy 32 year old until July 2011.

Thought it was worth a share considering Muamba’s attack . Hope he pulls through

Hey guys as a leftie with an iPhone can I offer an explanation for the thumbs down. It happens a lot on stories that shouldn’t have any reds if human decency still exists. The problem is the app is designed for right handed users, like a lot of things in life. Us lefties are so used to it we don’t notice much but our left thumb is accidentally brushing off the red. Even English writing puts lefties at a disadvantage.

Hi Dec, Personally I don’t give a fiddlers f**k who dislikes any comment I make. I think the fact is the nature of the story here. A man nearly dies and people come on and red thumb well wishes. I think that is the point, not the fact that people are upset that their comment got a thumbs down. Regardless of who the man is, or how quick he got treatment etc. the fact that there are humans out there who would not wish this man well leaves a lot to be desired. I agree, more education is needed with regards first aid and more facilities made available. If someone dropped in front of me, I wouldn’t have a clue what to do and that is something I will hope to rectify. :)
