PREDICTION

Moyes likely to succeed Ferguson at United - Docherty

He also believes the veteran manager will be allowed to choose his own successor.

DAVID MOYES IS the most likely candidate to succeed Alex Ferguson as Man United manager, according to ex-United boss Tommy Docherty.

Docherty suggested the veteran manager would be allowed to choose his own successor and cited Ferguson’s friendship with Moyes as one of the reasons as to why the 48-year-old is likely to replace his fellow Scot.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Docherty said: ”Fergie will make the appointment of whoever takes his place, not the directors.

“I think it will be David Moyes because they are good friends. He’s done a great job at Everton with no money.”

He added that he did not expect Ferguson to step down in the near future, and believes he’ll still remain in close contact with the club when he does:

“Alec will probably move upstairs, but he will want a new manager who knows how the game is played, how the club should be run and keep in contact with him about what’s going on.”

Ferguson has managed the club since November 6 1986, winning countless trophies during his time there.
