FOLLOWING A LENGTHY spell as manager of Everton and a not-so-lengthy period as Alex Ferguson’s replacement at Old Trafford, David Moyes has just agreed to become the new Real Sociedad manager.

The one-time RTÉ pundit has spent many years abroad, particularly in Spain. where he had a brief spell in charge at Real Madrid among other sides. He also had three stints in charge at Moyes’ current club, Real Sociedad.

Before becoming the Sky Sports pundit that we all know and love, Souness managed Galatasaray, Torino and Benfica with varying levels of success. He will be remembered at the Turkish club for planting a Galatasaray flag in the centre circle of rivals’ Fenerbache’s pitch, almost causing a riot in the process.

Following his unsuccessful spell as manager of the Irish team having impressed with the youth sides before then, Brian Kerr spent two years as Faroe Islands coach, overseeing some notable performances and results, including a draw with Northern Ireland and a defeat of Estonia.

David O’Leary

After stepping down from his role at Aston Villa, O’Leary returned to management with Al-Ahli in the United Arab Emirates in 2010, but was sacked after less than a year in the role following a series of bad results.

Bobby Robson

Robson enjoyed a distinguished career as a manager abroad, taking charge at a number of high-profile clubs including PSV, Porto and Barcelona, emerging with a good reputation when he eventually returned to England with Newcastle.

The current Wales manager has spent time as manager of both Greek side Larissa and Real Sociedad in Spain, but resigned after less than a year on both occasions due to a difference of opinion at boardroom level.

Having managed a number of clubs in England, Taylor took the unusual step of agreeing to become Bahrain coach in 2011. Taylor enjoyed some success initially but was sacked after the team were beaten 6-2 by United Arab Emirates.
