Movember power rankings: this year's best sporting mos, #20-#11

As we bid farewell to facial hair for another 11 mo-free months, we count down the sport stars who really impressed us this Movember.

GENTLEMEN, START YOUR razors.

All month we’ve been tracking sport’s biggest names as they grew good, bad and downright outrageous moustaches in the name of fundraising and cancer awareness. Movember isn’t a competition, strictly speaking, but that didn’t stop us from turning it into one.

It’s all over now and from tomorrow, you can expect the male faces in your life to return to some semblance of normality. But before that, we have to finish what we started, and so we present to you the best sporting mos from 2012.

The top 10 are so good that we’re saving them until tomorrow but the 10 men below deserve honourable mentions for their efforts.

20. Keith Fahey
1 / 10
  • 20. Keith Fahey

Birmingham and Republic of Ireland midfielder Keith Fahey is a known Movember supporter, but updates from him were few and far between this year. There was a stewards' enquiry into the legitimacy of this effort but he makes the cut at number 20.
  • 19. Scott Evans

Ireland's number one badminton player Scott Evans also showed some early promise but updates after that were thin on the ground -- unlike his current mo, we're sure.
  • 18. Conor Sammon

Derby County's Conor Sammon went unnoticed in our power rankings until he bagged a brace against Birmingham last week. Our pic isn't great, so you'll have to trust our judgement in putting him in at number 18.
  • 17. Peter Crouch

Crouchy lost a couple of teeth against Newcastle the other night but he can take some consolation from 17th place in the power rankings.
  • 16. Matthew Taylor

There's no denying that Taylor has put tender love and care into his mo. It's not as full or outlandish as some, but it has been well looked after.
  • 15. Phil Jagielka

On the football pitch and, erm, on his face, Phil Jagielka leads by example.
  • 14. Andrew Hore

We were reluctant to include Hore after he clocked Bradley Davies last weekend, but just like Richie McCaw and every IRB Player of the Year shortlist, he's there whether you like it or not.
  • 13. Noel Hunt

Noel Hunt has his fans here at TheScore.ie, and the Reading striker eventually settled on this look which could easily land him a part in V for Vendetta.
  • 12. Jamie Heaslip

One of the early front-runners at the start of the month, Ireland skipper Jamie Heaslip finishes down the field in a disappointing 12th place. We're not quite sure what happened but this all looks a little bit unfinished to us.
  • 11. Luke Fitzgerald

Remember this guy? We thought Luke Fitzgerald was injured all this time but it turns out he was just lurking in the shadows and cultivating a secret mo. It's a valiant effort, but he falls just short of the top 10.

TOMORROW: We count down the top 10 and pick this year’s Movember champion. It’ll be worth it, we promise.

Pick 6: featuring Freddie Flintoff’s boxing debut and much, much more

When celebs and sports stars do this, can we get figures of how much money they raise? Or are they just doing it for the photos?

In any news pieces we need to remind us all that this is about fighting cancer too.
