Disciplined

Morgan Parra banned for two weeks but will be free to play against Ireland

The French scrum-half’s suspension means he’ll miss the clash with Scotland in round four of the Six Nations.

MORGAN PARRA WILL miss France’s Six Nations clash with Scotland on the 8th of March after he was handed a two-week suspension by the LNR.

The Top 14′s governing body gave notice of the ban this afternoon, following a disciplinary hearing yesterday in Paris, where Parra’s red card against Montpellier last Saturday was examined.

Referee Sébastien Minery sent the Clermont scrum-half off after he aimed a headbutt at Rene Ranger in response to the New Zealander’s offside tackle. The fact that Parra was suspended for four weeks back in October for punching in a Top 14 game against Bordeaux was likely a factor that counted against him in the LNR’s decision today.

Parra was called up to Philippe Saint-André’s France squad early in the week, despite the fact that the head coach knew the 25-year-old was potentially facing a ban. While the two-week sanction rules Parra out of the Scotland fixture, he would be available to play Ireland on the last weekend of the Six Nations if selected.

Having spoken about the his belief that “wearing the France jersey demands certain duties and obligations” after dropping Louis Picamoles from his group, it will be interesting to see if Saint-André is forgiving of Parra’s lack of discipline for Clermont.

Scotland will be relieved that the petit général will not be lining up against them as they look to back up their win over Italy last weekend.
