More to Dublin than Brogans, says Harte

Manager says Dublin have “many more threats” ahead of their quarter-final showdown with Tyrone on Saturday.

TYRONE MANAGER MICKEY Harte has dismissed claims that Dublin are overly reliant on the Brogan brothers, saying they are far from a two-man team.

The Brogan brothers are often regarded as the shining lights in the Dublin side, with Bernard having been named Footballer of the Year and Alan having two all stars to his name.

However, speaking to The Irish News (print edition), Harte rejected the assertion that keeping them quiet is key to beating Dublin, saying they have “many more threats”.

He added:

“(Kevin) McManamon can run at teams and get scores, Diarmuid Connolly can get scores, Paul Flynn is a good wing half forward, even Bryan Cullen can nick scores as well.”

He claimed that the Leinster final, in which Bernard gave a below-par performance, constituted proof that Dublin can manage without their considerable influence.

In addition, Dublin beat Tyrone in last year’s competition, however Harte claimed that revenge will not be in their minds on Saturday.

He also praised Dublin for their recent run of form, saying:

“They are in pole position at the minute because they’ve won six of the last seven Leinster titles and they’re champions again this year.”

Meanwhile, Harte’s side have thus far had a mixed year, falling short in the Ulster Championship, before putting in a formidable performance at the weekend, beating Roscommon 3-19 to 1-14 to set up their clash with Dublin.
