THE FIRST DAY of the Transitions Championship in Tampa, Florida, saw Padraig Harrington’s poor form continue as he shot a two-over par 73.
The Dubliner started well enough, parring his opening nine holes. He then birdied the first hole (his tenth, having started on the back nine) to put him in a decent position to post a good score.
Instead, he came home in 38, carding three bogeys in his final six holes to leave him nine shots off the overnight leader, Paul Casey. England’s Casey shot a magnificent seven-under-par 64, a round that included seven birdies and no dropped shots.
At the time of writing, Casey had been joined on seven under by Sergio Garcia and Stuart Appleby, but was yet to tee off. American’s Garrett Willis and Scott Stallings had set the early pace on day two, and they shared the lead together on eight under.
Harrington and Casey are both set to tee off at 1.22pm local time.
