Money's back: Floyd Mayweather to fight Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero, leaves HBO

Mayweather, 35, holds a record of 43 wins in as many fights, including 26 KOs.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR will fight for the first time in a year with a bout against Robert Guerrero to be held in May.

The World Boxing Council welterweight champion will put his title on the line against Guerrero in his first fight since beating Miguel Cotto on 4 May, 2012.

Mayweather, 35, holds a record of 43 wins in as many fights, including 26 knockouts, and has signed what his team have described as a ‘groundbreaking’ deal with Showtime and CBS.

“The deal – a unique revenue-sharing arrangement between SHOWTIME PPV and Mayweather – will enable him to fight up to six times over a period of 30 months,” a statement from Mayweather Promotions read.

“With the first mega-event taking place on 4 May, 2013, when Mayweather will fight Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero. More details of this upcoming event will be announced shortly.”

Mayweather has taken several long layoffs from the sport, including a 16-month break between beating Shane Mosley in May 2010 and Victor Ortiz in September 2011. He served two months in prison last year after being found guilty of domestic abuse, and was released in August.

The American said on Twitter earlier this month his father, Floyd Sr, would train him for the bout. Guerrero holds a 31-1-1 record with 18 KOs and took over a year out from the sport to help his wife Casey successfully battle life-threatening leukaemia
