FORMER FERMANAGH BOSS Malachy O’Rourke is set to become the next Monaghan senior football manager.
In a statement on the Monaghan GAA website, it was revealed that O’Rourke is set to be proposed for ratification on Monday night at a meeting of the Monaghan county board.
O’Rourke has emerged as the prime candidate to replace Eamonn McEnaney who stepped down earlier this season in the wake of Monaghan’s All-Ireland qualifier loss to Laois in O’Moore Park, Portlaoise. Monaghan had earlier exited the Ulster championship at the hands of Down at the semi-final stage.
O’Rourke was previously in charge of Fermanagh for a three year spell, 2008 to 2010. His debut season was his most successful as he guided Fermanagh to league promotion from Division 3 and also to the Ulster final where they were defeated after a replay that year by Armagh.
