MONAGHAN CAPTAIN CONOR MCMANUS’ tally of 1-7 helped his side to an Ulster Senior Football Championship semi-final replay win over Armagh in Clones this afternoon.
Armagh had led in the early stages through an Aaron Findon goal in the 12th minute – Findon finishing on the rebound after Aidan Forker had smashed a shot against the crossbar.
However, the Farney responded with five points in succession before McManus got the better of James Morgan to score a brilliant goal three minutes from the break and send his side into half time with a four-point lead; 1-8 to 1-4.
That lead was seven by the 60th minute when McManus popped over his sixth point of the day but a couple of fine scores from Jamie Clarke kept Armagh in the game.
Their cause was not helped, however, by a 63rd minute black card for Stefan Campbell which reduced the Orchard County to 14 men as they’d already used all six substitutes.
With their man advantage, Monaghan comfortably held on and will face Donegal in a repeat of last year’s Ulster decider with Armagh set to face Tyrone in the qualifiers.
