ATLANTA BRAVES STAR pitcher Tim Hudson broke his ankle and was left wincing in pain after a clash at first base during the Braves 8-2 victory over the New York Mets.

Hudson left the field in the eighth inning on a stretcher after being flattened when he was stepped on by Eric Young who was trying to beat out a throw.

Young hit a sharp grounder that went off the chest of first baseman Freddie Freeman, leaving Hudson racing to the base to receive the throw when he placed his foot on the bag and a charging Young then stepped on his ankle.

The pitcher crumpled to the ground in obvious pain. Before Hudson was taken off the field, Young came over to apologize.
