IRELAND AND THE USA will hold a minute’s silence before Sunday’s World Cup opener in New Plymouth to commemorate those that died in the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001.
The match takes place ten years to the day that four planes were hijacked and almost 3,000 people were killed in attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon in Washington.
Black armbands will be worn during the game, while the US Eagles will take part in a special memorial mass on the morning of the match.
Why it was ten years ago not yesterday, and nothing to do with rugby.
And what of the 250,000 approx people who have since died as a result of ‘The War on Terror’?
