MICK MCCARTHY HAS signed a new three-year deal with Ipswich Town, keeping him at the Championship club until the summer of 2017.
The former Ireland boss joined the Tractor Boys in 2012, taking over from the sacked Paul Jewell. McCarthy guided Ipswich from the bottom of the table to a 14th-place finish that season, before helping the club into 9th position in the 2013/14 campaign.
The former central defender managed Ireland from 1996 until 2002 and was linked with a return to the international scene when Giovanni Trapattoni and the FAI parted ways in 2013.
McCarthy was heading into the final year of his original contract with Ipswich before this new deal was agreed with club owner Marcus Evans. The 57-times capped Ireland international can now prepare for the 2014/15 campaign from a more secure position.
Assistant manager Terry Connor has also agreed a new three-year deal with the Blues, as the club aim to build on last season’s progress and make an assault on the Championship play-offs.
