STOKE CITY HAVE completed the signing for former England striker Michael Owen on a one-year, pay-as-you-play arrangement.

The deal is subject to approval by the Premier League Board.

Stoke had been in talks with Owen and his advisors all day and it had appeared that the deal was off, before eventually the 32-year-old agreed the terms on offer.

Although the contract only runs for one year, it will be increased if the former Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester United player passes a certain number of appearances.

The move will see Owen link up with Peter Crouch, his former England team-mate, and leaves Liverpool still searching for an unattached striker to replace Andy Carroll.

Owen had been linked with a return to Anfield, as well as moves to the Far East and Championship.
