LONDONโ€™S FOOTBALLERS GOT some presidential encouragement this afternoon ahead of their historic Connacht final appearance.

President Michael D Higgins met manager Paul Coggins, captain Seamus Hannon and other members of the Exilesโ€™ team on the first day of his official trip to Britain.

Sundayโ€™s provincial decider against Mayo in McHale Park will be Londonโ€™s first since they started competing in the Connacht Championship in 1975.

President Higgins last year became the first Irish President to visit the GAAโ€™s British Headquarters and said that he had been โ€œinspired by the spirit of solidarity and communityโ€ that he experienced in Ruislip.

โ€œThat same spirit has now earned London a deserved place in the Connacht Football Final. This is a fantastic and deserved achievement and is a testament to the GAA in Britain and the fine work they have been doing over the years to promote our national games and to support Irish individuals within their adopted communities.โ€
