NEW IRISH SWIMMING sensation Sycerika McMahon won her second gold medal of the European Junior Swimming Championships last night in Belgrade, Serbia.
The Belfast swimmer blitzed the field in the 400m freestyle final, smashing her own Irish junior record in the process with a time of 4:13.85.
She came in a full second ahead of second-placed Briton Rachel Williamson, with Germany’s Johanna Friedrich in third.
The talented teenager is back in the pool today for the heats of the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle. McMahon is currently ranked number one in the latter event and also in the 100m freestyle.
There are four other Irish swimmers competing today. Jane Roberts (Kilkenny SC) joins McMahon in the 200m freestyle heats, while Nicholas Quinn (Castlebar SC), Peter Clarke (Limerick SC + HPC-UL) and Dan Sweeney (Sunday’s Well SC) all take part in the 50m backstroke.
