UFC chief: We've started talks about McGregor title fight in the Aviva or Croke Park

Gary Cook says “something very special” is on the cards if McGregor beats Denis Siver in January.

CONOR MCGREGOR’S DREAM to win a world title in a sold-out Irish stadium could become a reality next summer.

UFC bosses have opened talks about the prospect of staging a featherweight title fight in either the Aviva Stadium or the much bigger Croke Park.

Gary Cook, the organisation’s head man in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said the plan could quickly take shape if McGregor wins his next fight.

He told the Sunday World’s Kevin Palmer: “Conor is fighting Denis Siver in Boston in January — and if his last fight in that city is anything to go by, there will be a huge army of Irishmen cheering him on.

After that, we are looking at something very special. Talks have taken place over the prospect of hiring Croke Park or the Aviva Stadium for a possible world title fight against the Brazilian champion Jose Aldo next summer.

McGregor has rocketed into title contention with four wins from four since making his UFC debut and is currently ranked fifth in the featherweight division.

Two of the men ranked above him, Cub Swanson and Frankie Edgar, face off later this month and UFC president Dana White moved to reassure them that the Dubliner is not skipping the queue for a shot at Aldo.

“I told Cub and Frankie, ‘Don’t worry about anything you hear with all the Conor McGregor talk and all the other stuff. You worry about Cub Swanson and you worry about Frankie Edgar.’”

I like Cub , and it would be terrible for him if he lost against Edgar , but I really hope he loses and we get to have this happen

Rude and abnoxious? About time the Irish stopped playing second fiddle to the result of the world., we are waking up becoming hungry and now we thinking of winning rather than always losing . Come on Irish take your positions on the world stage , give our opponents hell!

If The Script can fill out Croke Park then surely Mc Gregor can(he’s probably a better singer)as for him stating facts about his opponents i for one hope he never changes. How many sportspeople representing Ireland have acted like Failte Ireland ambassadors instead of hungry inspirational athletes?

Conor McGregor is already rude and obnoxious. If he became champ, that would get even worse.

It will have to be an indoor arena. Frankie and Cub have had their shot and if McGregor beats Siver then he deserves a shot. Let’s hope Siver doesn’t get lucky in this match.

Joker, who’s going to get the arse beat off him when he coes up against half decent opposition. Disgrace to this country with the pre-mature showboating. Clown.
