McCarthy and Wilson injury concerns ahead of Scotland-Ireland clash

The Stoke defender is expected to be ruled out for a few weeks after picking up an injury against Tottenham at the weekend.

JAMES MCCARTHY AND Marc Wilson are both injury concerns ahead of Irelandโ€™s vital Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland on Friday.

McCarthy completed the 90 minutes in Evertonโ€™s 1-1 draw with Sunderland โ€” making a vital goal-line clearance to deny Wes Brown in stoppage time โ€” despite soreness in his hamstring.

โ€œWe are going to assess James,โ€ Everton boss Roberto Martinez said after the game. โ€œHe was feeling his hamstring towards the end of the game but he wanted to stay on the pitch because we had used all three subs.

โ€œIt is a bit of a concern because he had the same injury a few weeks back when he missed the game against Manchester United and it is in that area.

โ€œWe are hoping that it is more fatigue than a soft tissue problem. We will assess him in the morning.โ€

Meanwhile, victory over Tottenham moved Stoke into the top half of the league table, but their efforts were dealt a blow with injuries to Marc Wilson and Phil Bardsley during the match, with the former likely to be ruled out for a few weeks, meaning heโ€™d missed Irelandโ€™s upcoming trip to Celtic Park.
