ON A SEPTEMBER Sunday that would not have been out of place in mid-July, Mayo’s six decade wait for All-Ireland football glory goes on after a one point loss to Dublin today.
Both sides were guilty of squandering chances in the first half (Dublin had 10 wides to Mayo’s 9) but Dublin would have been the happier side going in at the break, Bernard Brogan and Robert Hennelly conspiring to gift the Leinster champions a goal.
It was a strange first half, Mayo seemingly dominating possession but failing to make that count on the scoreboard. Hawk-Eye was called into action for the first time in All-Ireland football final history but Keith Higgins’ shot was ruled just wide.
Andy Moran finally opened the scoring in the fourth minute after some scrappy play by both teams. A bad mistake in the Mayo defence a minute later gifted Dublin their first score, a short free out going straight into the hands of Diarmuid Connolly who tapped over with ease.

The Connacht champions kicked on from that mistake, scoring three unanswered points in the next ten minutes and seeming to settle into the familiar pattern of free-flowing football that has been a trademark of their season.
However, their good work was undone by an uncharacteristic error from goalkeeper Robert Hennelly to hand Dublin a lifeline; Bernard Brogan latching on to the end of a hit and hope ball from Paul Flynn. Hennelly would pull off three brilliant saves afterwards but it was a goal that gave much-needed momentum for the Dubs and they had to be happy to go in at half time just one point behind, 0-8 to 1-4.

The Blues started the second half the better with Robert Hennelly pulling off a brilliant save from Eoghan O’Gara in the 37th minute but he couldn’t prevent his parry going over the bar to give Dublin their first lead of the game.
They eased into a three point lead 15 minutes into the second half before Andy Moran broke a long ball to Michael Conroy who fed the ball back to the Ballaghaderreen clubman who sidestepped Stephen Cluxton before slotting home to level the game at 1-9 apiece.
Four minutes later though and Dublin had their second goal of the game and, who else, it was Bernard Brogan who had the umpire waving the green flag. It was a beautifully worked goal by the Blues who created an overlap through Michael Darragh MacAuley and Denis Bastick before picking out Brogan who palmed the ball into the net.
Mayo fought back to be just two points down but were gifted a chance to win the game in injury time, Cillian O’Connor opting for a point from a close range free kick when there was a chance for a goal. Referee Joe McQuillan then blew up from Stephen Cluxton’s kick out and Dublin were crowned All-Ireland football champions for the second time in three years.
Scorers for Dublin: Bernard Brogan 2-3 (0-1f), Eoghan O’Gara, Stephen Cluxton (0-1 ’45, 0-1f) 0-2 each, Ger Brennan, Cian O’Sullivan, Paul Flynn, Diarmuid Connolly, Paddy Andrews 0-1 each.

What an idiot going for point when they needed a goal and injury time elapsed. Seriously he must be brain dead. They deserved to lose for that alone. Well done the Dubs
They didn’t have a choice, I’m afraid! Dublin were simply just too good at the back and Mayo realized points were needed to force a replay, not a goal, as Dublin had loads of men in the goal! But time was up at that stage!
In fairness it shouln’t even have come down to that last kick, Dublin were much better than the winning margin suggested. Hard luck to Mayo, it must be heartbreaking to lose another final. I remember Dublin losing in 84/85/92/94, was at all of those games so know how it feels.
That’s madness, maybe it was 100/1 shot to score goal with free kick with all the heads on the line but surely he had to go for it. The point meant nothing. Dreadful stupid decision but good for Dublin :)
Didnt think it was a great game but it was gripping right up until the end. Glad to see Bernard Brogan get his mojo back. He has been threatening to do that for a while now. Unfortunately for Mayo, he found it against them. The man is an absolute hero.
As delighted as I am to see my beloved Dubs once again regain Sam, I just am as equally devastated for Mayo and their fans. Both have been excellent the past couple of years. Hopefully they can bounce back and put an end to the ‘curse’. Defeats like today will make the eventual win all that much sweeter. Keep the faith.
Delighted for Gavin and his background team – first year in charge, hes blooded a new look panel, brought the under 21s through and won a clean sweep. Thats a magnificent achievent and he deserves all the platitudes that shall be thrown his way.
They had two frees in injury time from 20 yards out and took over 40 sec to put the ball over the bar on each free absolutely ridiculous it takes a second to kick ball over bar you would not see it at an under 12 match pure idiots
Both teams were very nervous, it was the final after all, had a feeling beforehand it wouldn’t live up to its billing. Not a patch on the Dublin/Kerry semi-final.
Bring in the black card straight away. Game is shocking to watch from a neutral. Dublin must have had 30 fouls in the last 12 minutes alone.i can understand why as they were doing anything to win..thus the laws of the game must be changed!! #dreadful stuff
My thoughts exactly. O Connor too inexperienced and naive. Took too long over the points as well. Wasted chances. It’s the fans I feel sorry for. They must be demented at this stage.
Hard luck mayo, your lads never gave up and your day will come. There’ll be more battles between these two sides.
Thank you dublin for making the people of Dublin happy.
Coybib :)
what language he spoke in wasn’t the problem, it was the delivery…..Jesus, the most boring winning speech ever. He needs to get over the ‘I’m such an intense guy’ thing. Great Keeper though :)
I saw far worse from some mayo fans on here a year ago when they beat us. Still looking forward to a league trip to castlebar in April and staying at the breaffy house hotel again though.
I wouldn’t tar all mayo people with the same brush as trolls on here, most mayo people I’ve met down there are great folk
I wonder if Mayo were expecting the ref to play on until the game was tied. Young lad got the wrong script. That is only possible explanation??? Surely….
In all fairness. The ref could of played an extra 20 seconds to see how the kick out would of gone. Especially with the amount of frees in injury time eating up the clock. Poor decision i thought. Bad refereeing.
Their substitutions also didn’t help – taking off Seamus O Shea who with Keith Higgins was their best player was more than strange. And leaving Mc loughlin on?
Beaten by better team last year too. But you feel for them – 3 times in a row beating the defending all-Ireland champs and not winning. I’d say revenge by Dublin was another motivating factor.
I disagree. They lost by a point and beaten fair and square by the better team. nerves got to the better of both teams today.
We sometines forget these lads are amateurs.
Mayo you got the tickets you tried to take the hill we were told it was yours game to win its ah long drive home now the Sam is were it belongs up the Dubs best of luck next year
Well done Dublin..great championship for Jim Gavin and his team..disappointing game..mayo just didn’t deliver on the big day again..great show from brogan when it was most needed..class..
Very poor game pulling and dragging , and a lot of cynical soccer like behaviour from Dublin near the end. Why do Ulster Bank, Supervalu etc. need mention in the President’s speech ?
Johnny, three sponsors for the football and three more for the hurling. The companies mentioned pay a lot of money to get the recognition and that money and publicity along with match attendance is partly what has made hurling and football the best amateur games in the world. Or at least makes hurling the greatest amateur game in the world. Football seems to be going backwards.
Why is football going backwards? Nerves got to both teams on the day. It’s understandable.
Dublins semi with kerry was the best game I’ve ever seen and Derry v down in ulster in June was another classic. Cork v kerry in Munster too.
Football is in good health as far as I’m concerned
Am a dub fan but awful disappointed with Dublin conduct in last 10. Standing in front if frees pulling and dragging non stop. Lots of staying down injured when nothing wrong . One Dublin player down holding his face when he had been fouled around chest . Will be interesting to see if the Tyrone critics give the dubs any grief . I suspect not but then again hypocrisy is not only a Greek word !!!
Mayo will never win it. The decisions they made in final 10min showed a team paralysed with fear. I never saw anything like the last free kick, putting it over the bar…….
Perfect weather, perfect pitch & 2 good footballing teams & the ref never stopped blowing the whistle. Destroyed what had the potential to be a magnificent event instead it was awful. Let the game go for gods sake. It’s worse then soccer.
With all the cynical fouling in the last few minutes maybe O’Connor thought another minute would be added. In retrospect it was madness not to go for goal.
Just a message to all you culchies out there, ahem. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA…..
Well done Dublin. Well deserved victory.Disappointing game though from two sides that impressed all year. I see crowding out forwards and rugby tackles are not just an ulster thing. Just saying.
What a missed opportunity for Mayo. Not a great Dublin performance with only BB standing out. The pressure of expectation got to them with a lot of kickable chances squandered. Only their keeper had a particularly good game. They gave up two very cheap goals at the worst possible times.
Plus the referee was very strict on Dublin’s physical play which I thought was within the rules most of the time, on another day Mayo would not have got as many frees.
I hope Mayo can bounce bak but they are firmly in the same never ending cycle as the Galway Hurlers.
I believe O Connor asked the ref how much time was left and clearly wasn’t told the truth! You can see him asking the ref but it probably wouldn’t have made a difference to the final result. I guess it’s bonanza days for the economy when Dublin wins, not being cynical of course. Well done Dublin but I guess questions need to be asked how a team that has more resources pumped into it than any other County probably combined, only wins by one point so well done Mayo! Mayo has been the second best team in the Country more times than most others so their day will come. Congrats Dublin and enjoy the win.
Congrats Dublin
I honestly think mayo and dublin finals will be seen more often than not over the next 5 years . By far the best two teams in the country , delighted for the Dubs but want to thank the lads in Mayo for giving us some great football this year and destroying that rubbish negative junk coming out of Donegal . Great year , only for it being Dublin ild be routing for Mayo in a final …
I’d love someone to explain this resources thing to me.
It’s an amateur sport, yes Dublin have a big support and population but also massive playing pool of soccer rugby and hurling players. Mayo don’t have that problem in my opinion.
The odds aren’t as stacked in our favour as people like to believe and also a lot more distractions in the city for players.
I’ve always felt strongly about this and must say it annoys me when people try to downplay what that great Dublin team achieved today.
Bitter much Majella? Try not to be a sore loser… That ref was clearly on Mayos side…. So stop blaming funding etc etc… O’Conner bottled it twice and went for a point, he may well have missed both goals.. But he may just have been a hero and won the match for Mayo. Too much pressure I’d say, and therein lies their curse, the better team won, deal with it.
Firstly, congratulations on the win yesterday. The two best teams in the country and you were fully deserving winners.
But you can’t seriously believe that Dublin don’t have advantages over every other County?
There is something like 13 or 14 league divisions in Dublin, I could be wrong but I would be surprised if any other County had that many? So your playing pool would still be larger, and at the end of the day this is what it comes down to. It’s a numbers game. The numbers you have four underage teams is off the scale.
Add in on top of that the extra funding from sponsorship etc. With this money you can compete with all the other sports for kids attention. Dublin have used this money wisely and have, I believe, a big presence in schools. The fruits of this plan has been evident in the last number of years at underage level and is starting to show at senor level too. But the point is this could not be done without the resources that the county board can call upon.
This is not being bitter as I’m sure I will be accused of, but Dublin have major advantages over other counties, and it all comes down to population. That’s just the way it is, Dublin would be foolish not too use these advantages to their fullest.
He was told there was a minute left and he took 40 seconds to take the free. You cant expect the ref to just add time to suit Mayo. Although he had tried everything in his power before hand to swing it for them
Theirs 12 football leagues in Dublin and the bottom 6 (maybe more) are played by men the wrong side of 40 and lads who I’ll be kind and say won’t play inter county football any time soon. I know because I was one of them!
Don’t see what advantage that gives us, ciaran Kilkenny is the only player in the Dublin team not playing senior football (ie top 2 divisions). The gaa are in every school in Ireland and a huge number of kids in Dublin are lost to sport because of the urban sprawl and logistical problems with getting to training etc.
Of course we have an advantage, but it’s nowhere near what some like to say it is. If it was we wouldn’t have gone 16 years without an all ireland and 61 without a leinster in hurling!
Unless your implying were all just shrinking violets and wasters up here (which I think is what a lot of people do think). I love a bit of urban/rural banter but it’s getting a bit too nasty in recent years in my opinion
@Alan all we have been hearing all week is that it’s Mayo to loose from everyone from all sides all the anti Dublin people were out and loud so sad for mayo but its our year again
I’m from Donegal and friends in both camps. Never said it was Mayo’s to loose – but Mayo and Dublin best teams this year by a mile. Well done Mayo and congrats Dublin!
From a neutral perspective, the reason so many people dislike Dublin is due to fans like yourself David. Dublin fans who turn up for the big games are equivalent to the average English chav soccer fans – big mouths, small brains and absolutely no sense of sportsmanship in victory or defeat. The team had a great win, fair play to them, the Mayo team and fans will handle defeat graciously.
Not that I agree with the comments of David, quite the opposite in fact, but why do so many people feel the need to tell us about why they don’t like Dublin fans. Being liked by fans from other counties is not a priority for us, in fact we don’t care two hoots what you think of us…Up the Dubs!
“so many people dislike Dublin is due to fans like yourself …” so basically what you are saying is a county with a population of over 1.5 million are generalised and disliked because of a few comments you disagree with from “a” Dub…? hmmmmm
Yes – was a very poor game . Some rules need changing eg hand pass – - just 1-2 – then have to kick – and rugby tackling – as practised in last ten minutes or so today – should get a red card .
Dublin were poor – but Mayo were worse .Thankfully there is hurling – and football could be ok again if they change a few items as mentioned – and bring back a real football – not the balloon they play with now .
It was a very close game, well done to Dublin lucky to win by a point, both teams were good during the year. Dublin were certainly not flawless in that match. Dub supporters should be gracious in winning maybe take example from the players who shook the Mayo players hands at the end of the game should the Mayo players respect.
Could not believe he went for the point, at a certain point of a game you have to go for broke , that’s how big wins are made. Dublin invited Mayo back into the game and Mayo nearly had a fairy tale
Mayo threw it away being a Dubs supporter I thought the first hAlf Mayo had a great chance but my o my they didn’t even come close .Congrats Dublin wish I was home from Nyc to celebrate
Cillian O’Connor went for a point because he was clearly told by the referee that there would be time following the free for at least one more play and then he blew the final whistle. Why was there no mention of that in the article? Lazy journalism to assume he just went for the point when e was clearly asking McQuillan before taking it and McQuillan was clearly seen saying yes
agree with nearly every comment above, from kerry myself but everyone wanted mayo to win, but the big question in a footballing county is this……..are these the best six forwards in Mayo, if so Moritmer must be fairly bad, kerry went through a period when selectors chose from their own areas, this has cost mayo as well
Some Points:
1. The better team on the day won, congratulations Dublin.
2. Dublin showed the greater composure in attack and made the most of their opportunities
3. Very little has been said about it but the heat had a huge impact on the shape of the game, with both teams suffering while trying to play a high intensity game.
4. Mayo can feel hard done by in terms of injury time, the ball was in play for barely 1 minute of the 4, largely due to persistent fouling and time wasting by Dublin
5. Majority of Dublin fouls actually came in the first half when Mayo dominated possession.
6. How come when anybody else does it it is cynical fouling, but when it is Dublin the ref is somehow to blame? I wonder what Tyrone people are thinking today?
Eel knack mile in relation to point4.EVERY county in ireland comitts cynical fouls at every stage of a game so it’s not just a Tyrone or Dublin or Meath thing. The anti dub attitude is just old and sad at this stage
I agree, every County does it, and if the tables were turned I am sure Mayo would have done the same thing. I was surprised the referee did not play more injury time because of all of the stoppages.
I am not faulting Dublin, just contrasting the media portrayal of them as some kind of footballing saviours while other teams such as Tyrone are vilified for using tactics that in certain circumstances, all teams use.
A word on Mayo substitutions – James Horan is an excellent manager but I feel he made a couple of errors – of course this is much easier to see with hindsight.
Unless he had an injury, Alan Freeman should have been given longer to pick up his game. Yes he started poorly, but without him the full forward line was suddenly shorn of pace and height, something which became painfully clear in the second half as Michael Conroy struggled.
Also, while removing Cuniffe who had a poor first half was the correct move, moving Keith Higgins out of the forwards was a mistake. He was the best player on the park in the first half – his loss contributed further to the stagnation of the forwards as the game wore on.
Two goals scored by Brogan wins Dublin the Sam Maguire Cup in today’s pulsating GAA All Ireland Handsy Championship. Commenting on his second goal on RTE’s The Sunday Game, Brogan said. “sure all I had to do was palm the ball into the net” GAA – FOOTBALL – HELLO!
are these the best six forwards in mayo, am from kerry but we went through a barren period when selectors picked their neighbours, surely mortimer should have been a sub at least???

Mayo’s last kick of the game, 2 points down and they went for the point! Hellooooo?
ref did everything he could for mayo, 16th man. loada sour grapes being served up here…
What an idiot going for point when they needed a goal and injury time elapsed. Seriously he must be brain dead. They deserved to lose for that alone. Well done the Dubs
Had a free two minutes before that in the same position, took 40 seconds to take the point.
Gobsmacked.
Well done Dublin.
Even going for a point Dublin were always going to then win the kick out, crazy decision!
You’s be back for the 3in a row nxt year lol
Up The Dubs!
Tough luck Mayo but good news Man U were beaten
They had two frees in injury time from 20 yards out and took over 40 sec to put the ball over the bar on each free absolutely ridiculous it takes a second to kick ball over bar you would not see it at an under 12 match pure idiots
I wanted mayo to win.tje only upside is that thay pinhead enda kenny will be disappointed
Maybe the Mayo lads had a few quid on Dublin..
Well said!
Congrats Dublin. Well deserved. Hope all ye dubs enjoy the celebrations
Sinead, the celebrations will go on well into the night :o)))
Best team won. Very poor game though. Everytime you looked there was some one lying down. It was worst than the premiership
Nothing could be worse than the premiership.
Both teams were very nervous, it was the final after all, had a feeling beforehand it wouldn’t live up to its billing. Not a patch on the Dublin/Kerry semi-final.
The league of Ireland
As a Dub I felt sorry for Mayo hard luck., ye will win it some day.
Enda Kenny had called for a referendum to see if the people of Ireland will vote to install mayo as all Ireland winners
where was he at the end? hope he has a good reason for not congratulating Dublin
Just glad we did not have to see or hear that squeaky voice of Enda Kenny.
Bertie had him in head lock sure.
He hates Dublin. Probably look for a Dublin tax in the budget.
Enda has no bottle or manners.
As a neutral I feel sorry for Mayo. On the upside it gives me pleasure to know that Enda Kenny is feeling bad today.
If I had a euro for every foul in this match I’d be drinkin for a week.
Mitch, blame the ref,
Bring in the black card straight away. Game is shocking to watch from a neutral. Dublin must have had 30 fouls in the last 12 minutes alone.i can understand why as they were doing anything to win..thus the laws of the game must be changed!! #dreadful stuff
I could never begrudge a man of an all Ireland but how o’gara and Connolly didn’t get booked earlier is beyond me
O’Connor not going for goal was madness. A complete damp squib.
It’s not hurling … There was zero chance of scoring a goal from there with 5 players minding the goal.
Slim chance, but not zero. He should have gone for it.
But with the ball in the box there was every chance the might have won a penalty. Have to say I was delighted to see him go for the point. Up the Dubs
Mike Meehan scored a last min goal against cork with the goal line full of men
Kick it to the man who was free ffs. Rush the backs… duck formation if you have to ffs. A point???
My thoughts exactly. O Connor too inexperienced and naive. Took too long over the points as well. Wasted chances. It’s the fans I feel sorry for. They must be demented at this stage.
No chance of that. McQuillan was never going to give Mayo a penalty. We had 2 clear fouls commited on Mayo players in the box in 2nd half and nothing
Ref was on Mayo’s side so be quiet.
Sore losers are still losers.
Hard luck mayo, your lads never gave up and your day will come. There’ll be more battles between these two sides.
Thank you dublin for making the people of Dublin happy.
Coybib :)
Well played Dublin
The mayo curse continues
I hope that priest died roarin
Well done Dublin, good luck next season in the Champions League.
They.ll win that to if need be
Feck sake Mayo
Was routing for mayo but well done Dublin! Better team
Hope Enda enjoyed his day out……LOSER!
Another imbicile from Dublin !
Another muck savage
Absolute disgrace Cluxton the donkey didn’t speak in irish at any point.
Bhuel cén fáth nár scríobh tù as Gaeilge má mhothaíonn tú mar sin ?
He spoke in the first Official language of this Country- where’s the problem ?
Why would he speak Irish, we speak English in Dublin :)
1st lingo here is polish u muppet Irish lol get a life
what language he spoke in wasn’t the problem, it was the delivery…..Jesus, the most boring winning speech ever. He needs to get over the ‘I’m such an intense guy’ thing. Great Keeper though :)
No it’s not its English yi d…head and its a blessing we don’t speak Irish or this country would be a backward hovel
Could have fooled me !
Some people can actually manage to speak both languages Paul!
Now where are all the anti dubs now we are champions again love it
we? didn’t see you on the pitch at any stage of the game!
by the way, nobody is anti dubs they’re probably anti bandwagoners!
Be gracious in victory. Ye were the better team and fully deserve your title.
Well done.
And yes I am a culchy.
This post is probably a reason people don’t like dubs. Try be gracious in victory and defeat
Yes be gracious. You are sounding like a Man U fan now.
the reason people might come across as anti-dubs is contained in 90% of the comments from Dubs to this article.
How can try to be gracious in victory when a majority of posts on here complain about Dublin no matter if they win or lose its pathetic at this stage
Depends on the ref doesn’t it? Clare have a second chance, Mayo don’t.
Why did they not go for goal in.the end ….
Seened like a silly decision to me. But I suppose there was about 10 defenders on the line….
Gowan the dubs !!!! Was quietly confident and never doubted them !!
Poor game, but well done Dublin, did what they had to do… God that was hard to hear
Mayo always bottles it in the final.
Didnt bottle it today. Were beaten by the better team today.
Well done Dublin. Enjoy tonight.
Very gracious p. A true fan
How can you think that P? 3 wides in the first 6 minutes from frees? 7 in the first half? Completely dunged it yet again.
I disagree. They lost by a point and beaten fair and square by the better team. nerves got to the better of both teams today.
We sometines forget these lads are amateurs.
What have Mayo to do to win a senior football final?……..well done Dublin. Coppers will be buzzing tonight.
Why does oconner take over a minute to take a free.. twice towards the end he did it…No leadership on that team and they bottled it
Mayo you got the tickets you tried to take the hill we were told it was yours game to win its ah long drive home now the Sam is were it belongs up the Dubs best of luck next year
Well done Dublin..great championship for Jim Gavin and his team..disappointing game..mayo just didn’t deliver on the big day again..great show from brogan when it was most needed..class..
Rubbish game. I’m going watching paint dry in the back garden.
Very poor game pulling and dragging , and a lot of cynical soccer like behaviour from Dublin near the end. Why do Ulster Bank, Supervalu etc. need mention in the President’s speech ?
You can get the soccer in back garden you can?! Actually I don’t care..
Nah Lad, don’t really watch soccer, love the GAA… But that was horrendous. Bring on the hurling is all I can say.
Bitter comment, get over it, dublin are champions. Thats end of..
Why is football going backwards? Nerves got to both teams on the day. It’s understandable.
Dublins semi with kerry was the best game I’ve ever seen and Derry v down in ulster in June was another classic. Cork v kerry in Munster too.
Football is in good health as far as I’m concerned
One bad game with tiring teams playing in unseasonally sweltering conditions is no basis to condemn the game.
Not going to waste anymore of my life watching Mayo trying to win Sam.
Poor enough game in my opinion.mayo were poor on the day and dublin deserved to win.they were at least 5 points better than mayo.
Mayo will never win it. The decisions they made in final 10min showed a team paralysed with fear. I never saw anything like the last free kick, putting it over the bar…….
Go on dublin, the best county in the land.
seriously?? Are you in playschool?
Perfect weather, perfect pitch & 2 good footballing teams & the ref never stopped blowing the whistle. Destroyed what had the potential to be a magnificent event instead it was awful. Let the game go for gods sake. It’s worse then soccer.
GAA need to cop on to themselves and stop letting muppets run games. 80,000 plus paying punters having the game ruined by a clown with a whistle!!!!?
With all the cynical fouling in the last few minutes maybe O’Connor thought another minute would be added. In retrospect it was madness not to go for goal.
Where’s that clown that was on here all week? Where are ye now
It’s a real pity that Dublin vs Kerry was the semi final, not a memorable final at all but well done the dubs
Just a message to all you culchies out there, ahem. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA…..
Please elaborate: Is this aimed at English culchies or Irish ones. Your sports loyalties confuse me?
Brilliant match :)
No it wasn’t. Promised so much but failed to deliver. Much the same as Mayo once again!
Absolute muck. Worst final I can remember.
Shane – ‘ Brilliant match’. simultaneously a hilarious, incredible and utterly unbelieveable comment.
Terrible game. Cork and Clare will be a real game next Saturday evening
Or Dublin and Kerry in the semis. Too much pressure and hype getting to both teams probably.
Next year we need Jenna Jameson as Mayo coach to show us how NOT to choke on the big occasions :-(
Well done Dublin. Well deserved victory.Disappointing game though from two sides that impressed all year. I see crowding out forwards and rugby tackles are not just an ulster thing. Just saying.
Mayo did it to Dublin in last year’s semi final. Didn’t hear too many cries of derision then. Swings and roundabouts is all.
I know that Mark. It’s just there are a lot of people on here that think its only done by Ulster teams.
Up the dubs!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We sandwiched mayo and fed it to Sammy!!!!!!
Stayed up late here in Oz.what an exciting game!..god help us is right!!
Just don’t think they have the bottle in mayo whatever is in the water
John,
Firstly, congratulations on the win yesterday.
Bye bye Mayo now for next year
@david. Please be gracious in victory. Dubs always had it controlled.
Well done dublin
That’s the small brain part of my point proved then.
Jealous of the best county in the land BAC
“so many people dislike Dublin is due to fans like yourself …” so basically what you are saying is a county with a population of over 1.5 million are generalised and disliked because of a few comments you disagree with from “a” Dub…? hmmmmm
Up the dubs!!!
Shouldn’t be possible to palm the ball into the net
We’ll u seen wat happened
Mayo left with red faces and green eyes! They went into the final believing they were owed the win!
Mayo for hang sandwiches!! Ha ha!
I presume joy brolly will scar the dubs like he done the Tyrone lad for the cynical fouling , worst I’ve seen in a long time
Well done Dublin, hard luck Mayo, very tight game, but you made the finals it could have went either way.
It was a very close game, well done to Dublin lucky to win by a point, both teams were good during the year. Dublin were certainly not flawless in that match. Dub supporters should be gracious in winning maybe take example from the players who shook the Mayo players hands at the end of the game should the Mayo players respect.
What Dub supporters have not been gracious or respectful about the win Audrey?? (and please dont point out some fool you seen along the street…)
One hell of a hoodoo Mayo have to overcome
Could not believe he went for the point, at a certain point of a game you have to go for broke , that’s how big wins are made. Dublin invited Mayo back into the game and Mayo nearly had a fairy tale
Fair play to Dublin, they deserved to win it in the end!
McQuillan’s response to the accusation that he said there was 30 seconds left after the free.

Mayo going for the three in a row next year!!! Up Limerick
agree with nearly every comment above, from kerry myself but everyone wanted mayo to win, but the big question in a footballing county is this……..are these the best six forwards in Mayo, if so Moritmer must be fairly bad, kerry went through a period when selectors chose from their own areas, this has cost mayo as well
Dublin lads are the best lads
It’d have been better for Mayo if beaten by Kerry or Tyrone in final… At least they’d go home after! ;-)
Mayo wud have needed to have gotten their cramp tactics today wud have shaded it lol
