Maybe this is why Qatar won: five incredible stadiums

OK, so it might be 50°C there all day, every day. But just look at where the matches will be!

SO QATAR has won the 2022 World Cup, defeating South Korea, Japan, the United States and Australia to host football’s biggest tournament – the first time that the tournament will have been held in the Middle East.

While many are already decrying the announcement, believing that the winning bid was chosen purely because of the money that it could throw at the tournament or into the FIFA purse – and with many already wondering how Qatar’s culture of female subservience and ban on pork and alcohol may go down – there may also be some valid reasons why the tournament could be an incredible one.

Or, rather, five incredible ones. Have a look at the first five stadia they’ve unveiled. And bear in mind, this is only five of the ten stadia they’re going to need.

Although, fancy stadiums aside, hosting the 2022 tournament does mean that Qatar themselves will be taking part – and with players of this calibre, we can’t wait to see how well (!) they do.
