THE TRAP ERA came to an end this morning as Giovanni Trapattoni left his post as Republic of Ireland manager “by mutual consent.”
It looks to be the end of an era too for Manuela Spinelli who won the hearts of the nation as Trap’s interpreter.
Without Manuela, Trap would never have learned the subtle differences between ‘wingers’ and ‘swingers’ and the rest of us might never have understood what he really meant when he uttered the immortal words ‘don’t say the cat is in the sack when it is not in the sack.’
“Thank you all for your kind messages,” she tweeted this afternoon.
“It’s been an incredible honour for me to work with Giovanni, Marco and [the FAI].”
There have been plenty of tributes to Manuela in the last 24 hours:
There was even a hashtag — #SaveManuela:
Ciao e mille grazie, Manuela. See you again soon hopefully.
