Everton accept Manchester City bid for Jack Rodwell

The 21-year-old is set to join the Premier League champions.

PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS Manchester City are set to make Jack Rodwell their first signing of the transfer window.

Rodwell, 21, is due to undergo a medical with City on Sunday after Everton confirmed that they have accepted an undisclosed bid for the midfielder.

The England international has long been linked with a move to Manchester United but their cross-city rivals now appear to have beaten them to Rodwell’s signature.

A product of the Everton youth academy, Rodwell has made over 100 senior appearances for the Toffees since breaking into the first team in 2007.

He scored his first goal for the club against Manchester United in January 2010 and amid growing interest, signed a new long-term contract at the end of that season which committed his future to Merseyside.

Rodwell represented England at U16, U17, U19 and U21 level before Fabio Capello rewarded him with a first senior cap in a friendly win against Spain in November 2011.

Manchester City play Chelsea in the 2012 Community Shield at 1.30pm on Sunday.
