Man United confirm Falcao loan swoop, Welbeck joins Arsenal

Louis van Gaal described the Colombian striker as “one of the most prolific goalscorers in the game”.

MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE completed the shock signing of Colombia striker Radamel Falcao from Monaco on a season-long loan, the Premier League giants announced in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

“MUFC is delighted to announce Radamel Falcao has joined on a 1-year loan from Monaco with an option to buy,” United announced on their Twitter account, alongside a picture of the player posing with a club shirt.

United have reportedly paid Monaco around 10 million euros to secure Falcao’s services for the season, with an option to make the deal permanent for 55 million euros.

The prolific 28-year-old forward, who missed the World Cup due to a serious knee injury, flew into Manchester to complete a medical examination hours before the transfer window closed on Monday evening.

“I am delighted to be joining Manchester United on loan this season,” Falcao said in a statement on the United website.

“Manchester United is the biggest club in the world and is clearly determined to get back to the top.

“I am looking forward to working with (manager) Louis van Gaal and contributing to the team’s success at this very exciting period in the club’s history.”

United had earlier announced the arrival of versatile Netherlands international Daley Blind from Ajax in a deal reportedly worth around £14 million (17 million euros).

They have also sold England forward Danny Welbeck to Arsenal for around £16 million and allowed Mexican striker Javier Hernandez to join Real Madrid on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

Falcao, who has scored 20 goals in 51 appearances for Colombia, has scored two goals in three matches for Monaco this season after making his comeback from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

He will hope to win a place in United’s attack alongside Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, leaving Van Gaal with a rich pool of striking talent at his disposal.

Van Gaal described Falcao as “one of the most prolific goalscorers in the game”.

He added: “His appearance-to-goal ratio speaks for itself and, when a player of this calibre becomes available, it is an opportunity not to be missed.”

Utd paying £6 million for the loan and a eye-popping 350,000 quid a week in wages to Falcao.
More than £20 million for one player for one season. Watch the ticket prices go up.

    Who’ll load the bullets? Carrick?

The team is lopsided. Needed defenders and midfielders of proven quality.
And the team looks far from comfortable, playing 3 at the back.
    Then what?

My guess is that LVG will revert to a back 4 and a 4-3-3 formation.

What is striking is the lack of home grown players. All I can count is three on the strongest lineup; Shaw, Young, Rooney.

Yeah, I don’t get this £6 million for the Falcao “loan”. How is there a fee involved if it’s a loan deal? Also, is the £6 million paid to Monaco, Falcao or his agent?

Arsenal wouldn’t deal with United when it came to vermalen yet United sell welbeck to them. They might regret that considering his age and potential.
Although he hasn’t scored a competitive goal since March so maybe they think he’s just shite.

David Silva, Luis Suarez, Yaya Toure, Tevez, assume all these players fall under this bracket then also? I can’t understand the obsession with playing in a competition you have no hope of winning. A player joining united has as much chance of winning the champions league as Arsenal, Liverpool, Monaco and the likes.

    @mustard
City had qualified for champions league BEFORE Aguero and Silva arrived and they came from clubs that weren’t playing in Europe.
Toure was a squad player at Barcelona before he joined city.
Suarez was an exciting talent with potential who hadn’t proved anything in a big league before moving to
    liverpool
Falcao on the other hand is one of the top 3 strikers in the world and could pick any club he liked. He was flirting with Madrid the day before on twitter. That was the move I expected.
Suddenly a struggling club with more money than sense offer 350000 pounds a week and he’s a united player, good luck with that one.
It’s only a matter of time before the other mercenary in the team starts flirting with other clubs because he wants his 300000 a week salary to match Falcao”s

So by that rationale any player joining United now is purely doing so as a mercenary unless coming from a minnow. There’s no chance these players (Di Maria and Blind) view United as a place where they can be part of a resurgent club finally spending a fraction of their turnover on quality players, playinf infront of 75,000 a week for a world class manager and a club littered with history of winning championships. Also basically using your logic every player worthy of the world class tag should play with Real Madrid or been seen to be taking the mercenary route. How much has Ronaldo won at Madrid compartive to what he did at United? How did Van Nistelrooy and Beckham fare there in comparisson to United…

If you’re saying its madness that Balloteli and Welbeck cost the same to buy then I think you’re wrong. Balotelli was a great buy at a great price for Liverpool however if Balotelli didn’t have any question marks over his behaviour and attitude he’d be at least double the price. It’s hard to know how to put a price on a player these days, 16 mill for Welbeck might be on the high side but that’s deadline day for you especially when the selling club know you’re desperate.
