Runner dies after collapsing at finish line of London Marathon

The 42-year-old man was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A MAN HAS died after competing in yesterday’s London Marathon.

The 42-year-old was treated by medical staff after collapsing at the finish line, then rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“The organisers of the Virgin Money London Marathon would like to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” reads a short statement released by organisers.

We will not be releasing any further details of this tragic incident and would ask for your understanding in this matter.

“We would like to emphasise that our immediate concern is for the family of the deceased. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with them at this difficult time.”

The race was won by Kenya’s Wilson Kipsang, who set a new record for the course with a time of two hours, four minutes and 27 seconds.
