FRANK LAMPARD CELEBRATED his loan extension by scoring the winning goal as Manchester City edged Sunderland 3-2 on Thursday to move level on points with Premier League leaders Chelsea.
City announced late on Wednesday that Lampard’s loan move from their sister club New York City FC had been prolonged to the end of the season and he proved his worth by coming off the bench to score the winner.
This thunderbolt from Yaya Toure gave the home side a valuable lead and when Stevan Jovetic coolly back-heeled in the second, it looked like City could consider their resolutions fulfilled.

But, ex City and Everton defender Jack Rodwell hauled the Black Cats back into the game with 22 minutes remaining.

And when Adam Johnson converted a penalty on 71 minutes it looked as though Manuel Pellegrini’s side were headed for another embarrassing draw.
