‘I’d prefer Mountjoy’: Rugby fans react to Luke Fitzgerald’s proposed Munster move

Reports today suggested the Leinster back had signed a new contract with the southern province.

AT NOON TODAY, Dublin radio station 98FM reported that the rumoured move of Luke Fitzgerald from Leinster to Munster ‘could be a runner’ and added that the deal may already be signed.

There followed a raft of hurt, angry or confused sentiment from Leinster fans on Twitter, with their counterparts in the southern province not really knowing what to think of an inbound player with such a chequered injury record.

Neither the provinces nor the IRFU were available to comment on the matter this afternoon. So the move for Fitzgerald (who signed just a one-year contract extension last summer) should still be filed under ‘rumour’.

3PM UPDATE: Leinster have poured a big bucket of cold water over Fitzgerald’s burning effigy by giving him a two-year contract extension. All’s well that ends well, eh?
