HE’S THE NUMBER one golfer in the world and has had 13 top ten finishes this season, but one of Luke Donald’s more impressive stats went largely unnoticed until it ended last week.
Despite a solid opening round of 69 at the Dunhill Links Championship on Thursday, Donald had reason to be a little bit upset.
Sixteen holes into his round, he had his first competitive three-putt in over two months.
The Briton’s remarkable streak, which stretched all the way back to the RBC Canadian Open at the end of July, came to an end after 449 consecutive holes when he failed to save par from eight feet.
To put it differently, that’s just one hole short of 25 rounds of golf.
“I was a little upset, yeah,” Donald told reporters after his blip with the putter.
It’s the little victories in golf that we look for. I didn’t want to miss.
The world number one quickly put his disappointment behind him, however, and finished the weekend in ninth place, seven shots adrift of winner Michael Hoey.
