Podolski bids emotional farewell to Arsenal fans as he completes Inter Milan move

“Please know my heart always holds a place for you.”

ARSENAL’S OUT-OF-FAVOUR striker Lukas Podolski has thanked the club’s fans as he signed a six-month loan deal with Roberto Mancini’s Inter Milan.

The 29-year-old forward arrived in the Italian city last night to put pen to paper on an initial deal until the end of the season with the Serie A side given first preference when his contract at Arsenal ends in the summer.

Various outlets are reporting that the fee between the clubs for his services will be determined by the number of appearances he makes in an Inter jersey.

Podolski underwent medical today but must wait until Monday to finalise his move because the transfer window doesn’t open on the continent until then.

It will mark the end of a mixed two years in England. After signing for the Gunners in April 2012 from Koln, Podolski made an instant impression but has fallen down the pecking order recently.

He made just seven appearances in the Premier League this term, all of which were from the bench.

The German international has always been a fans’ favourite, however, and he took to social media this morning to bid an emotional farewell to the Emirates faithful.

“I can’t express in words my gratitude towards Arsenal fans for all they have done for me in my years in London!,” he wrote.

“Please know my heart always holds a place for you. I’ve loved every minute playing for Arsenal & I hope I have left my mark on the club & fans alike. Hopefully we shall meet again!”

Podolski could make his Inter debut on Tuesday when Inter travel to face league leaders Juventus as the Serie A resumes following its winter break.
