Luka Modric goes on strike - reports

The Croatian has become disenchanted, owing to Tottenham’s refusal to sell him to Chelsea, and has refused to travel for the side’s game with Man United tonight.

RUMOURS ABOUND THAT Luka Modric has gone on strike today, after Harry Redknapp said that the Croatian midfielder would play no part in Tottenham’s first Premier League match of the season against Man United tonight.

The Sun reports that Modric refused to travel for his side’s encounter with United, amid speculation that the player is growing increasingly frustrated at the inability of Chelsea and Tottenham to agree on a fee for his signature.

The player allegedly told Redknapp that he has no intention of playing for the club again.

And while the Tottenham boss did not say whether the player had gone on strike, he confirmed to talkSPORT that Modric would not be involved against United, saying “his head’s not in the right place”.

Chelsea have had bids of £22million and £27million turned down by Tottenham, and while some reports suggest the club are set to make a £30million move for the player, Chelsea’s imminent signing of Valencia’s Juan Mata has raised doubts over the deal.

The Croatian is currently carrying a slight knock that ruled him out of last Thursday’s first-leg Europa League tie against Hearts, but Redknapp admitted he probably “could have played through it” for tonight’s game.
