LIVERPOOL MANAGER Brendan Rodgers rates Reds striker Luis Suarez as his player of the season.

Suarez has been in exceptional form this term, hitting 26 goals across all competitions.

The Uruguayan’s form has led to reported interest from current Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.

Liverpool are in eighth place in the Premier League table and Rodgers believes Suarez’s qualities are a key reason why his side are in contention for European qualification.

“Who’s mine? (player of the year) Luis Suarez. He has been phenomenal. That’s not just an opinion as his manager,” Rodgers told reporters.

“Luis had to play as the only striker we had for six months and hasn’t missed a single day training. I couldn’t look further than Luis.”

Rodgers revealed that the side could be without Daniel Sturridge for the trip, adding that Raheem Sterling could be rested.

He added: “Daniel has had a little knock but we’ll assess that in the next day and see how he is for the weekend. This is a kid (Sterling) who’s got huge talent. I’ve got to make sure I protect him. He’ll need a wee rest, mentally and physically.”

  • He was asked this in an anfield press conference today, what else do you think he was going to say? The 4 standout players this year by a mile have been Suarez, RVP, Bale and michu.

In saying hat I think Sturridge is Fast becoming the most important player at anfield. Changes the whole dimension of the team when he plays

  • Ahead of van Persie and Bale?

    Behave yourself Rodgers

    • You explain, in a struggling team he has scored 25 goals and nearly beats teams on his own. Van persie was years in England until he showed this kind of form. As for bale he also has carried his team albeit a better team than Liverpool. Van persie should finish third behind either of the other two. Suarez will never win this award because of his antics. Whether its at Liverpool or elsewhere suarez will prove himself to be a better player than van persie. Bale will do the same.

    • Player of the year ! A cheat , a diver and a thug . He won’t get the PFA award for sure . Be fair to say the only people who like him are pool fans

    • Reason to be Player of the Year.
Member of a good team or bad team – doesn’t matter
Amount of time spent in the premier league – doesn’t matter.

Bale has been amazing in some games but I think Van Persie and Suarez have been constantly head and shoulders above the rest of the league. Don’t like much of the nasty business he has been involved in but for me Suarez is easily player of the year.

    • Peter is that the best you can come up with, do you understand the background of the case at all, obviously not.

Your logic is sad and laughable.

Michu, in a struggling team, has scored 19 goals and beats teams on his own. Same logic again.
