Suarez set to stay with Liverpool due to 'support from Reds supporters'

‘I will be staying’ the Uruguayan told a South American newspaper.

LUIS SUAREZ HAS revealed he is ready to stay at Liverpool due to the support he has received from the club’s fans.

The Uruguay international had previously stated his desire to leave Anfield for a UEFA Champions League club, with La Liga giants Real Madrid thought to be his preferred destination.

However, Arsenal are the only club to have made a formal bid for his services this close-season and Liverpool owner John W Henry has stated that he has no intention of selling the 26-year-old to their Premier League rivals.

Despite publicly agitating for a transfer, Suarez was afforded a rapturous reception from Liverpool’s supporters when he appeared in Steven Gerrard’s testimonal game against Olympiacos earlier in the month.

And the striker has now seemingly accepted that he will not get his wish for a move before the end of the transfer window on September 2, citing this support as a key factor behind his reasoning to stay put.

While on international duty ahead of his country’s friendly against Japan on Wednesday, the striker told Uruguayan newspaper El Observador: “For now, due to all of the people’s affection (for me), I will be staying.”

Suarez has scored 56 goals in 91 appearances for Liverpool since his switch from Ajax in January 2011.
